Stripers in Transition and Spread Out

Report Date: May 4, 2011

Water Level 1/2 foot above full pool

Water Temperature 72 degrees

The fishing has been good if you can find fish. The fish are spread out from the dam to the upper ends of the lake. A lot of fish have run up the major rivers on a spawning run. This will end soon as they head back down lake. The best action has been early morning up close to the banks. The fish have been very shallow until the sun pushes them deeper. Look for them to start schooling up and chasing bait on top soon. If they blow up and splash water in the air, it will be time for throwing top water plugs. May favorite is a Lucky Craft Sammy in ghost color. This usually happens in May and June. By July, they will move to deeper, cooler water.
