Striper Report

Lake Hartwell

Full Pool

70 Degrees

Stripers have been eating will in the creeks and up the rivers. My customers have been out fishing me, with a jig called a scrounger. A ¼ oz scrounger and a 5 inch fluke are deadly. The color of the fluke we use is albino white ice. It is similar to a little fishy in that is vibrates as you reel steady. The bucktail and fluke that I throw has to be jigged and let fall. The scrounger is simple to fish. The fish are still in the creeks, but the main lake is turning on. By the end of April, the morning bite will be as good as the afternoon. By mid May, the morning bite will be better. Fish are starting to eat herring pulled without weight in shallow water. Pulling up on the bank on a good point and casting out to 10 to 15 ft. With herring, works if they are there. If you like to cast, this is prime time. We will switch to casting top water plugs and pulling free lines by the 4th week of April. That should last thru May when fish move deeper and down lines become the norm.
