Despite Warm Water, Fish Feeding Well

Report Date: January 15, 2013

Water Temperature: 57°
Water Level: 15 feet below Full Pool

December was tough. The fish stayed deep and did not eat well. Some people said that the water was still turning over. The water temperature did not get below 58° until almost Christmas. Since January 1, the fish have grouped up and are feeding well. There is still not much surface activity, though. I thought the water was warm last year, but 57° on January 15 is something I have never seen. It looks like this will be the warmest winter ever.

Look for fish around the seagulls in the major creeks and the River arms. Small flukes cast around fish marked on the graph will catch suspended fish. Work a jigging spoon off the bottom if the fish are close to the bottom on the graph. If you use bait, try medium shiners on light line. If the water stays warm, Herring will also work.
